BTCC June Update

With the 2013 BTCC season well underway – and after the thrills and spills of May’s races – June was set to be a great month for Team Honda. Here’s a quick update of this month’s racing action.

Race 4 – Oulton Park 9/6/13

Oulton was certainly a dramatic race day. It saw MG KX Momentum racer, Jason Plato, score a stunning double victory. That was until a dramatic fire in the final race of the day saw Pirkek Racing’s Andrew Jordan head up the podium.

Team Honda’s Gordon Shedden had two podium finishes on the day; bagging a third place finish in the opener, and securing a solid second place in race two. Teammate Matt Neal finished just 0.078 seconds off a podium finish in the third. Despite this, a sixth and two fourth place finishes were enough to see him leave Outlon Park with the championship lead.

Things were tight at the top though; Neal, Plato, and Jordan are only separated by seven points.

Race 5 – Croft 23/6/13

Race 5 took place at Croft this weekend, and was full of excitement – much like the season as a whole.

eBay Motors’ Colin Turkington secured an impressive double victory, but was piped to the post in the third by Team Honda’s Matt Neal. Turkington already held the title for most successful BTCC driver at Croft, and further cemented this accolade with his 8th victory.

Honda Car

Matt’s Honda teammate Gordon Shedden managed to secure a third, second and fourth position on the day; helping to increase Team Honda’s lead in the team standings. With his win in the third race, Matt Neal extended his championship lead over Andrew Jordan by 19 points.

Matt said:

“Every win is a special one but I was counting every lap down in that won. We’re only halfway through the season – there’s a very long way to go – but it’s great to go into the summer break with the bragging rights as championship leader. I am going to make the most of that for the next six weeks before we come back at Snetterton.”

How things stand

After 5 races, things are certainly tight at the top of the drivers’ championship:

Driver Points
Matt Neal 224
Andrew Jordan 205
Gordon Shedden 188
Jason Plato 188
Colin Turkington 184

The BTCC season now takes a break until August, but everyone at RB Design & Display would like to wish Team Honda the best of luck for the next two races. Let’s hope Matt Neal can increase his lead, and that Gordon Shedden can sneak up into second place!
